The creators of Pumice Tiny House are launching an annual Artist Retreat
An opportunity for one artist each year to spend a fully hosted week in early spring (September or October) immersed in the natural beauty and sculptural architecture of Pumice, located in Ohakune, New Zealand. This residency is designed to offer time and space for reflection, creation, and connection with the surrounding landscape.
Applications open on May 1, with artists from all disciplines invited to submit a short proposal by email. A panel of respected artists and creatives will select the successful applicant, with notification by June 1. Among the judges is renowned New Zealand artist Fiona Kerr Gedson, whose intricate feather-based works and korowai-inspired pieces are grounded in Māori traditions and reflect themes of wellbeing, connection, and spiritual strength. Her presence on the panel reflects the retreat’s emphasis on authenticity, process, and artistic integrity.
This residency is not just about productivity—it’s about pausing, exploring, and finding inspiration in a place crafted with care and purpose. Further information about how to apply, what to include in your proposal, and details about the stay will be available on the Pumice Tiny House website.
