About Us
Pumice Tiny House is the result of a creative partnership between longtime friends Evan and Kevin, brought to life on the edge of the central plateau in Ohakune, New Zealand. What began as a shared curiosity around natural building methods quickly evolved into a handcrafted retreat—part sculpture, part sanctuary—shaped by straw, lime, timber, and time.
Built with care and intention, Pumice is a 45-square-metre straw bale house wrapped in lime plaster, designed to feel both grounded and uplifting. Every curve, texture, and detail has been considered to create a space that invites stillness, wonder, and connection. From the bespoke carpentry to the cocoon-like interior, it reflects a deep respect for craft, sustainability, and the beauty of imperfection.
But Pumice is more than a place to stay. It’s an evolving creative project—a space that supports residencies, workshops, and quiet reflection. It’s about slowing down, noticing details, and feeling the presence of a space shaped by hands and heart.
Whether you’re here for rest, inspiration, or something in between, we look forward to sharing the magic of Pumice with you.
